La vida loca hoops - gold plated

In '60s and '70s hoop earrings became an iconic fashion accessory associated with the counterculture and various style movements of the time. Oversized hoop earrings were worn by African and Latin American women and are still an iconic accessory seen in urban street styles, not only in Latin America, but all over the world.

On the streets in Mexico I saw a lot of 'papel picado', colorful tissue paper flags. It shows the creativity, cultural heritage and festive spirit of the Mexicans. I wanted to translate this in to an earring design, and immediately thought of an iconic hoop where I could implement this referencing print. Together with the text La Vida Loca, you can literally live and emphasize the crazy life you want. So let's stand on the table and just dance the night away!
